Rolex Yacht-Master - Watch History

The Yacht Master is a relatively new watch compared to the rest of the lines that Rolex offers; the Rolex Yacht Master was introduced in 1992 as the model 16628. This watch was originally release in 18 karat yellow gold but was available in later years as stainless steel and platinum (Rolesium). The Rolex Yacht Master was the first of the Rolex line to feature the Maxi Dial system, which consists of thicker hour and minute hands with larger markers.

In 1996, the 69623 model Yacht Master was released in a two toned configuration (yellow gold and stainless steel) as well as a version using a smaller case (model 68623). 1997 would be the first year that the Yacht Master was released in Rolesium, which is what Rolex dubbed their popular combination of stainless steel with a platinum finish. This new material configuration would prove to be immensely popular (especially among collectors and private markets) due to the limited quantities available.
